The London Eye Experience

The spectacular London Eye receives an average of 10,000 visitors a day. With 32 capsules in total, one for each of the London boroughs, it is an impressive part of London. We asked a family of four to go along and review the London Eye from a family viewpoint. This is what they said:

Having passed the London Eye on many occasions I jumped at the chance of reviewing it with my family. A short walk from Waterloo mainline station it was very easy to get to.

The children M (9), and L (7), were very excited and I must admit that I began to get rather excited myself as I watched people stepping in and out of the giant pods. The queues moved very quickly, and the friendly staff smiled and joked as they carried out numerous bag searches.

Fifteen minutes later we stepped into our pod with a number of other people and we started to rise slowly. Even with ten people in our pod there was still plenty of room to move around and once the children had lightly tapped the glass to make sure it was safe, we all began to relax. Each capsule is completely enclosed and climate controlled. So once you are inside you feel completely cool and at ease.

Seeing London at such a height is incredibly impressive. You can see around 40km from the top; as far as Windsor Castle on a clear day. As the crowds below begin to get smaller and smaller, the famous landmarks such as Big Ben shine like you have never seen them before.

There are plenty of opportunities to take great photos, and for those who suffer from a fear of heights, I can confirm that you barely notice the wheel moving. Thirty minutes later and it was time to disembark so we could rejoin the rest of the world on ground level, which we did with great smiles on our faces.

I have to admit that this is not something I would have normally picked as an activity to do with the children but it has provided so many talking points that I only wish we had done it sooner. This is definitely an experience I would recommend to other families and something we will be doing again in the near future. So, whether you are a tourist or simply looking for a family activity, The London Eye is not to be missed.
