Being Prepared For The Clocks Going Forward

Being Prepared for the Clocks Going Forward

Spring will soon be here! You will have noticed that the mornings are starting to get brighter, especially if you have a baby or toddler. At the end of March, Daylight Saving Time will be here, and the clocks go forward an hour. How do you prepare babies and toddlers for the brighter mornings and how will this affect your child? We have some great tips to help.

Morning wake-up times

Do you already have a good routine for getting up and preparing for your and your baby’s day ahead? Now we have to be up that extra hour earlier. To help with the adjustment, try putting your baby to bed 5 to 15 minutes earlier each day over the next few weeks to help with the transition.

Feeding and activity play times

The change in time may affect some babies and toddlers more than others. Try and let yourself be guided by their needs. When they get hungry from the usual schedule try to feed them and let them nap when they are tired. Over the coming days they will adjust by themselves.

Bedtime ready?

An earlier wake up time can also mean an earlier bedtime. Try to be flexible for the first few days, as they might not be ready for sleep straight away. Keep a good bathtime and bedtime routine to wind down for the evening and consider bringing forward this routine by 5 to 15 minutes each night.

Summertime

Using a nightlight or sleep training soother is a strong cue for your baby that it’s time to sleep. The VTech V-Hush Sleep Training Soother series offers a comprehensive solution that integrates technology, lighting, lullabies, and soothing sounds to create an optimal sleep experience for both babies and parents. Parents can effortlessly create and establish a calming bedtime routine for their children, promoting healthy sleep habits.

Don’t be too harsh on yourself. Remember that some babies’ and toddler’s internal clocks are strong and may resist the changes when the clocks go forward an hour. Try to make sure they still eat plenty and sleep when they need to, and you will both find your own routine.
